YellowSquare Reviews: Milan
Located in the heart of the Porta Romana district, YellowSquare Milan offers female-only dorms, shared dorms, and private ensuite rooms. Instead of a formal office, we have The Baretto, a laptop-friendly space where you can work, study, and eat during the day before it turns into an aperitivo and social meeting spot. Salone14 is our events hub in Milan, it's a local 'it-spot' where travelers and locals meet for live music, DJ sets, stand-up comedy, karaoke, and creative projects, it's more like a nightlife without leaving the hostel.
Had a good stay, thank you
The staff were absolutely amazing! Incredibly kind and helpful during the whole stay!!
I stayed 2 Nights at Yellowsquare, it was perfect. I thought it might be nice to be closer to the train station so checked out OstelloBello but i was wrong. I saw the other review saying bed bug bites and thought it might just be a one time. They are so itchy and painful and now it’s 1am in Florence (trained from milan this morning) and I can’t sleep because of bed bug bites from OstelloBello. I want a refund.
The place is clean, the atmosphere is friendly, and the staff is professional and very helpful. I was really pleased with my stay here, even more so after trying another hostel afterwards. The difference was huge! This hostel is exceptionally well-run and truly takes care of its guests. Great job to everyone on the team!
All the people at the hostel were very nice to us. The room was amazing, and we really appreciated the 20% discount at the hostel’s bar.
Everything exceeded our expectations.
From the free goodies (like the tote bag and welcome drink) to the cleanliness of the rooms, the stay was very pleasant. The people at the front desk were super nice and helpful, and the events were amazing. It was so great that there was a party downstairs of the hostel and events like tote bag painting.
They denied items they supposed to be part of my pay room and the staff is rude abd not helpful
The room and the bathroom were absolutely disgusting. And I entered the room just after the “”cleaning service”””. Then I think is genial to use metal bed frames that are so noisy everytime you touch them! Bad bad experience
The facilities were good and not lacking in any way. The staff was exemplar and very helpful. It was as if they were all concierges. I would definitely consider staying there again.
Overall I enjoyed my stay at the yellowsquare milan!
The staff was super kind, chill and helpful. The girls in my room was not so communicating, which is fine, I guess, but I would’ve loved some more:)
The activities in the hostel though are really helping to connect to people!
Nice accommodations, loved the laundromat!!!
My only problem with the place is that it’s super far from the city center and the airport.. so take that into consideration
It was a great stay for me.
1 room is very clean
2 location excellent is near to prt romana metro.
3 staff is very helpful.
4 people there was very friendly
Easy to find, easy check in, had everything we needed and a free drink voucher.
This was my first time staying in a hostel and the experience could not have been better. The rooms were clean, the facilities were bountiful and there was always something going on. I would recommend this hostel to anyone staying in Milan.
The experience was incredible, the whole facilities are amazing, very clean, tydi, the pleople who works there too. Besides, the location is perfect.
Yellowsquare hostel Milan was very welcoming and helpful on arrival, helped to my room and given a free drinks voucher for the bar. There was a sociable bar with board / drinking games, a comunal kitchen, a courtyard area and a few other rooms I hadn’t explored. Lots of rooms for guests meaning there were lots of solo travellers to make friends with especially at the social events held in the evenings and ran by the hostels volunteers.
Wish the accommodation was a little closer to the centre but it’s perfect if you’re ok to take the metro!
I spent one night at Yellowsquare because my niece was staying there. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room (private single room) and the comfort of it. Sheets and towels are provided. It’s comparable to a 3-star hotel and more reasonably priced. The hostel is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood just a few minutes’ walk from metro and tram stops. They organize lots of social events, tour and other activities. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
Very friendly personel, good location and great people in general.
At night there was a guy screaming all night long and hitting the iron frame of his bed after wich he fell from the upper double bed on the ground. Very funny guy haha 10/10 would come again
Great and very social hostel. I stayed in 4 female dorm and it was perfect. It’s very close to metro, restaurants and supermarkets. All the staff were very accommodating.
The hostel was fine in terms of cleanliness, facilities, and customer service. I arrived quite late and the bar area was busy, but I was greeted and checked in immediately. I shared a dorm with 3 other women and the room was very clean and so was the bathroom, and shampoo, towels, handwashing, and a hairdryer etc. were all available. There was a lack of secure storage in the room, but there is secure storage in the basement which I used when exploring the city. Great location too.
I thought the staff were super accommodating and nice, and the bar/cafe downstairs has pretty good prices. i wished there was more common spaces indoors, but the kitchen was super great and well-equipped! the rooms are pretty small but shower and bathroom is good and clean. My only complaint would be that the duvet is the thickness of a paper towel, and so I was so cold at night.
Yellow square was amazing , I did my first ever solo trip and decided to stay in yellow square . After a long day of exploring it was so comfortable to come in , have a chat with people around the world , board games , dinner etc. I was worried about hostel stays before my travel but yellow square made it a memory . I will definitely come back
Lovely people, clean rooms, lot of activites, nice shared spaces.
We only stayed one night at YellowSquare, but really wish we could have spent more! The place is really amazing, wether it comes to the dorms or the plenty of common spaces – we genuinely kept being surprised to find new ones, like the Chapel downstairs and everything, or the helpfulness and good mood of the staff. We also took part in the social activities (the mixology class and the quiz night), and instantly clicked with a dozen of people, both thanks to the activities as ice-breaker, and the atmosphere of the Piazetta and Baretto, that really helped feeling comfortable and open to meet other travelers!
The hostel is located about 30 minutes from the most famous sights (cathedral, galleries). There are lots of facilities and activities at the hostel, which is great. The biggest drawbacks were the noise and the cleanliness of the room. We were woken up several times during the night by people shouting in the corridor or doors slamming. The room was full of dust, which meant all our luggage was dirty. Recommended for those who can cope with a bit of noise and don’t mind a bit of dust!
Everything was very clean and all staff were super accomodating. Loved the open mic night
it was OK, my first night I had a bump in my mattress but I got from the airport very late so I just handled that in the morning, in the morning i went for a tour to Como lake( which by the way was amazing with Franchesco from hostel QUO) when I told them if they can replace it they said no problem but when I got back to the room I saw they didn’t, so only at the second time I asked they came with me to handle it. the second night, around 9 in the morning someone was drilling extremely hard because they fixed something in the outside bar.
beside that everything was OK it is a cool hostel, good vibes and nice facilities for the price:)
I had a great time at Yellow Square Milano. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Also the facilities and services was 10/10 (you get earplugs when you rent a towel and a super cute bag!). They had fun activities plannend in the lobby or basement and when you were op in your room, it was very quiet.
Thank you!
Even though it’s a bit expensive, nice overall experience. Helpful and nice stuff, easy to socialize, cool events. Beds are comfy.
The rooms don’t have many shelves, no closet, etc but the bed is comfortable, the shower is good and the hotel had a lot to offer. Free pasta dinner many nights, communicate kitchen and laundry, good location near Metro. Great staff. We would stay here again. We got a private room with bath, great value compared to other hotels in town especially during peak seasons
This week was special because of the F1 i hope I’ll come back and find the same vibe same service as in Florence 🥳
The hostel was good; the bed was comfortable, and everything was really clean. The position is also good, 5 minutes walking distance from the underground and near the Duomo.
For my first experience in a hostel, I have to say that I was perfect ! Great staff and areas
I stayed in the 8-bed dorm at this hostel, and while there are definitely some strong points, the overall experience in that room was disappointing.
• Room size: The 8-bed dorm is far too small. The lack of space makes it hard to breathe comfortably, and it feels overcrowded. I’ve stayed in a hostel in Bordeaux with an 8-bed room that was much more spacious and cost less. I understand Milan has a “city premium,” but this level of tightness ruins the stay. Honestly, it would be better to remove the 8-bed dorm option altogether and stick with the 6-bed rooms, which are more livable.
• Cleanliness & smell: With so little space, smells linger. Dirty clothes and shoes left around by guests made the room feel sticky and suffocating. More rules, reminders, or checks could improve this.
• Air conditioning: The AC made noise all night, disturbing sleep. A fix here would go a long way.
That said, there are positives worth mentioning:
• Location: Fantastic spot, making it very convenient to explore Milan.
• Staff: The team is friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help.
• Atmosphere & events: The hostel creates a great social vibe. The events and common areas make it easy to meet people, which is a huge plus for solo travelers.
Bottom line:
This hostel has a lot going for it – great location, friendly staff, and a lively atmosphere. But the 8-bed dorm is simply not up to standard. Until it’s improved (or removed), I’d recommend sticking to the smaller dorms or looking at alternatives.
Well located, friendly and knowledgeable staff, top rated maintenance and cleanliness.
everything was really top! great service, the guys are super helpful and super fast in answering questions via whatsapp. everything was super clean and modern! i booked one night and stay for three bc it was perfect! the location is also great!
Traveling as two people who have never been to a hostel, and only had mediocre experiences respectively. YellowSquare Milano completely changed this for us as it was alot more than just a place to sleep. We were met instantly with smiling faces from both the staff and fellow travelers. After check-in we joined a table of strangers, and quickly got to know each other over a beer, and one of the many events the hostel hosts. After two nights in Milano, we decided to book YellowSquare in Rome for our next stay, instead of a hotel as we had originally planned.
So the sheer amount of accommodation and the experiences you get from your stay, makes it totally worth it in our opinion. 🙂
i liked the engaging into activities that were held every night. Good kitchen, clean rooms and bathrooms.
