YellowSquare Reviews

YellowSquare is more than a hostel; it’s an international community designed for travelers who want to connect, work, and hang out. Across our locations in Italy and Greece, we provide female-only dorms, shared dorms, and private ensuite rooms, alongside working spaces and daily activities. Definitely not a boring hostel. From working over a coffee to evening events in our venues, we create a active atmosphere where locals and travelers meet and make friends. Every YellowSquare is a gateway to the city, focused on social vibes and the right place to meet people.

Overall, a good hostel with everything you may need. Had towels for rent, a hair dryer, luggage storage, free pasta, and was super close to Termini station. Would have been better with a privacy curtain!

To be honest I chose here even over boutique hotels which only take little bit higher price just due to cleanliness and safety in the first place this hostel provides, this is a somewhat prestigious hostel.

Good central location for mobility, I could almost go anywhere by walking. Trains and bus lines are easily accessible too

Friendly and helpful personnel, clean and hygienic rooms

Rooms having digitally run safety box in the each bunk bed space and manually locked personal cabinets

Having a nice bar to spend time on evenings

A proper air conditioner was in place

Good visitors with good vibes

Only downside was bathroom, shower cabin becoming a swimming pool while having a shower that the waste water channel must be somehow clogged.

Great hostel in the center of Athens, with a good breakfast, cozy beds, ensuite bathrooms, and balconies. The rooftop bar and the espresso coffee machine are above hostel standards. I will come back.

It is a nice hostel with many rooms and a bar in front of the street where you can get breakfast & drinks. People are very nice and i had a great time, the only thing that could be better is the beds are made of metal and a bit noisy when somebody moves at night, i shared an all womens room and it was okay for the price.

Pros:
– the beds were well-thought out, loved the extra vertical railing to climb into the bunk
– appreciated so many different common spaces and a full-size kitchen to not only make the food but hang out and eat it too!
– the bar was awesome, everything seemed reasonably priced, great portions, I had the Debola pizza and it was great!
– staff were all really nice and friendly, helpful, chill, yet still authoritative and laid down the ground rules! Nice to have respectable people setting a standard for the hostel! Felt more secure and legitimate that way
– loved having a common bathroom in addition to the bathroom within the dorm in case the dorm’s bathroom was occupied!
– I don’t know if all the rooms have a balcony, but that was such a surprise and a nice touch! Really elevated the stay and made me feel like I was in an accommodation closer to that of a hotel than a hostel!

Cons:
– There were so many touches that seemed created from the experience of having backpacked and travelled to different hostels, so it was a surprise that, with all the good things, the dorm lockers were vertical and quite small. I know some hostels have upright lockers as opposed to drawers under the beds, but, at least in my room, there was not much floor space in order to easily access my bag and dig out its contents once I’d gotten the bag out of the locker. So to have the vertical locker, in which I couldn’t really access my bag while it was >within< the locker, it would have been nice to have more floor space to go through my bag and get out what I needed, or to have a larger locker/drawer in the first place so that I could've accessed something in my bag without having to entirely re-pack every time just to fit my bag back in the locker.

The bags of other people in my shared dorm were too big to fit in the lockers, so there was already limited floor space between the bags laying out and the room having a weird shape besides. If I'd had a longer stay, I could see getting sick of taking my bag out of the locker, unpacking just to retrieve one thing, and then having to re-pack it all just so my bag could fit back in the locker. That could be really tedious. –I did like the extra shelf and hooks within the locker though! That was a nice way to offer some compartmentalization. 🙂

– oh, also, I don't know if there is air conditioning specifically in the dorms, but the room got very hot at night. Could have been due to the balcony door being open though. It was hard to tell if AC was running or not, so hard to tell if the balcony door should be closed at night. If I'd had a longer stay, I probably would have asked to clarify in order to know what was best! 🙂

I had a fantastic stay at the yellow square. I was only in Athens for the few days but they made it all better. The staff where lovely, the rooms where clean and the bed is incredibly comfortable! The roof top bar has the a incredible view of the Acropolis and across Athens as well! I can’t recommend then highly enough; I will be coming to stay again!

I had a really great stay at YellowSquare Athens. The hostel was comfortable, clean, and conveniently located, making it easy to explore the city. The breakfast was delicious, generous, and a great way to start the day, and the rooftop patio was such a nice added bonus.

What really stood out to me, though, was the kindness of one of the staff members. I had pre-paid for breakfast, but my flight was changed to an earlier time, meaning I had to leave before breakfast service began. One of the staff members actually put croissants in the oven early so I wouldn’t have to leave hungry before my flight. Such a thoughtful gesture, and very much appreciated.

The only downside was that the room got quite hot, so we had to leave the balcony door open, which meant there was quite a bit of street noise at night. Other than that, my stay was terrific and I would happily recommend it to others visiting Athens.

It felt like a 5 star hotel mixed with summer camp fun. Rooftop pool, restaurant and bar were amazing amenities and the rooms were spotless and quiet. The activities and high energy in the common areas were a good boost of moral even on rainy or cold days. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Only problem is location of the hostel, construction noise and not very safe area

YellowSquare was not quite what we hoped for but that’s partly down to our own research (or rather lack thereof). We were under the impression this is a “proper” hotel, turns out it’s more of a hostel, with every up and downside that comes with. The main problem was the super thin walls, it’s as if they don’t even exist, and many of the guests don’t respect the sleep of others either. On the upside: the place is very clean, the vibes are great, the staff are very nice and the food is good!

I absolutely loved it at Yellowsquare. I stayed at an all female dorm and it was very secure, you need a card to get to the floor and then to get to your room. The beds were very comfy and you are provided with linen sheets and a comforter.

It was one of the finest hostels I have stayed in Italy. However, I could not say the same for Yellow Square Milan. At Florence, I truly enjoyed the vibe, energy, and infrastructure of the place, which was very well maintained.

All in all amazingly positive experience, loved the staff involvement and engagement, I come from hospitality and know how hard this is to achieve.

stayed in Florence and Rome, the impression is you care and want to improve always and it shows in your operations! One thing i think could improve satisfaction, and frankly i have no idea how much more complex it’ll make the booking process is to allow the guest to see which beds are free within the room and choose top or bottom.

Loved you guys so much i was thinking to volunteer, even had a chat with the amazing Julio in rome (total keeper!!) then i reralized i might be too old for you guys at 47.

next life maybe 🙂
keep up the good work guys, was fun!

My friend and I stayed in all-female room and it couldn’t have gone better! These are the things that were particularly appreciated & useful to us:

1) Safe and secure! You needed your room card to access several doors and hallways to get to your room. There were always staff around and they were super welcoming, friendly and approachable. The rooms had standing lockers for each bed to lock your bags in (we had 40L hiking packs that fit, but other girls in our room weren’t able to fit their hard suitcases in them)
2) Rooftop pool & patio! This is what really won us over in booking here. The pool was really cold (it was April) but rooftop was gorgeous; good views, chairs, loungers and tables, and showers right inside the door.
3) Proximity to downtown! Train stop right down the street, only a few stops away from downtown streets, and many trees, shops and stores all around.
4) Super clean! They had cleaners come in every morning to clean the bathroom in our room. They also provided hand soap, shampoo, body wash and toilet paper.
5) Laundry machines in the basement! It was SO convenient having in the same building, it was a few euros per load but they were quite large and also included detergent
6) Large communal kitchen! Stocked with plates, cups, mugs, utensils and cleaning supplies (also large fridges & shelf space)
7)FREE pasta every night! You just need to make sure you get in line on time to ensure you get some as they’d run out quickly.
8) Wonderful roommates! This was probably more by chance but we were roomed with other women who were our age or older (25+). They were all super clean, tidy, respectful, quiet, and we all went to sleep before midnight. We were a bit worried apon arrival since the hostel seemed to have a large, younger, party-crowd with events every night. We all got along wonderfully and made some genuine & lovely friendships and connections.
9) Comfy beds and air conditioning! Compared to other hostels, we had great sleeps, the beds were comfy, and the room felt really cool at night while sleeping (it got quite hot during the day). While there were often people up late outside partying and talking, the noise was never an issue for us and the building did have ‘quiet hours’ each night.

Their breakfast is easy practical, they make good cafe americano. One of the best ive tried in rome. Very safe. The lockers are big enough to fit all my luggage. The bed has a personal safe. Staff is very friendly.

The service was excellent, someone took my original bed (bottom bed) and the staff helped me and moved to another room to maintain the same type of bed. Also, it was easy to borrow and iron.

The rooms were clean, the storage space is big enough, and also the badroom was well equipped.

A brilliant hostel for solo travellers, I arrived here as my first stop on my trip and really appreciated all of the small details (free sanitary towels at reception, daytime and evening activities, discounts on drinks at the bar) as well as how the hostel is geared towards connecting people. The room was very spacious and the under bed storage was helpful. My one complaint would be that because the hostel is split across two sides of the street, it made it harder for me to access communal social areas like the kitchen, garden and other hang out spaces because hey weren’t directly in my building so felt a little too far to access easily. A communal lounge with sink and kettle in the D/E block would be brilliant! That being said, the bar area is great, I had a brilliant time at the karaoke event (even if our song never came up – would be good to maybe have a screen showing how many people have already joined the queue!) and thought it was a great space to meet new people. Staying here made the start of my trip so much easier, definitely worth the price and if I’m ever back in Rome, I will be staying here again!

A good hostel, separate from the bar across the street so you don’t hear any noise. Also a quiet part of town that has a balance of restaurants and housing.

Yes it’s a bit expensive, but there is nothing I would change about this hostel. It has all the facilities, it’s clean. The beds are quiet and comfortable. Everything works. Great breakfast. Lively bar & fun activities. Perfect location.
