YellowSquare Reviews: Athens
In the center of Athens, YellowSquare offers female-only dorms, shared dorms, and private ensuite rooms. To get work done, our Wowork coworking space provides a quiet space and dedicated areas for video calls. Zero Bar is our spot for breakfast, drinks, and constant social activities, while Aura Rooftop Bar is the place to watch the sunset and grab a drink with other travelers. It offers a 360-view of the city and the Acropolis skyline, making it a great open-air lively space. Guests also have access to the SoulGood workout space, like a simple gym and can join free dance lessons to stay active and meet people.
The hotel is close to important areas and events, just minutes away, and is suitable for young people and couples for short stays. The rooms are quiet, especially on the lower floors, away from the rooftop where there is music at night. The front desk staff are very helpful and communicate with a high level of cooperation, especially the Italian woman, Camilla. Therefore, I recommend visiting it.
Highly recommend. Needed a place to stay after a quick change of plans and yellowsquare was fantastic. Super clean, friendly people. I splurged and got myself a private room and it essentially felt like a hotel experience for half the price. Also had a balcony was a view of the Acropolis!
We were staying in the Hostel for six days, with the access to the community kitchen it was easy to store food, we loved the activities that were organised and with the welcome bonus for the rooftop there was a nice spot to meet new people. The Hostel offered everything needed to have a pleasant stay, with a workout room, chill room, rooftopbar etc.
Very good location , nice crew, clean place , cool rooftop, really nice place to stay in Athens, I am very satisfied
Helpful staff, clean spacious room.
I only spent one night. The room was clean and fresh smelling. The staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. I would definitely stay again.
It was good place to meet other travelers and have fun
Location is perfect
Staff is amazing
Breakfast is very delicious
Excellent value
I had a really good time there. It is close to a lot of places, I felt safe all the time.
My stay did not start in the most pleasant way. Despite requesting a room with a balcony and a view, I was initially accommodated in a room that had neither. I later learned that, due to high occupancy, it was the last available room. While I understand that situations like this can happen, it would have been appreciated if this had been communicated in advance, especially since the rate I paid did not correspond to what I received upon arrival.
I expressed my disappointment to August, the manager on duty, and he immediately did his best to address the situation. His professionalism and willingness to help were greatly appreciated. The following day, Melpomeni, who was assisting guests outside the reception area, arranged an upgrade for me, as August had already reserved a suitable room for the next day.
What started as a disappointing experience ultimately turned into a very positive one thanks to the efforts of these two employees. Their dedication to guest satisfaction, responsiveness, and genuine care completely changed my impression of the stay. I am grateful for their assistance and would like to thank both August and Melpomeni for going the extra mile to make things right.
This version acknowledges the problem while giving deserved credit to the staff who resolved it, which tends to come across as fair and credible in hotel reviews.
Soical, clean, curtains, friendly staff, affordable, location was perfect and as a bonus the rooftop offered the best view ever!
Had a great time at Yellowsquare. Was there for two nights before taking off on a cruise. The room was comfortable, no frills, but we didn’t need all that. Just needed a comfortable bed and great shower. Rooftop bar was amazing and so fun with an an awesome evening view of the Acropolis! The food was good, loved the Greek salad and their pizza. Staff was very kind and sweet. We did order breakfast every morning and it was fantastic as well.
I liked everything! It was a great experience for my first solo travel. I stayed in 4 bed female dorm. It was wide and clean. So glad for the curtains in bed and bidet in the toilet.
The AC in the room was so noisy I could not sleep most of the time.
AC was broken. Room was very humid and had a poor smell coming from the bathroom with no circulation in the room.
I liked the hostel but I returned home sick. I Asked the reception to change the AC temperature because i was freezing (was 18c the whole stay), there was no remote so I was told it would be fixed by morning which didn’t happen. I caught a cold after that.
Enjoyed my stay at yellowsquare during my time in Athens, location is great and the staff are super friendly! Only downsides were the construction works going on right outside, and there was no duvet upon check-in which took a couple of days to get sorted
YellowSquare was so accommodating, fun, and super welcoming!
I’ll remember my stay at Yellowsquare as one of the most unforgettable travel experiences I’ve had so far. The hostel really stands out for its rooftop view, its colorful range of activities and services and the inspiring community you can meet from all over the world. Highly recommended!
My first stay in YellowSquare. I’m female and stayed in the 6 person mixed dorm. Definitely recommend getting the attached bathroom access. The beds were very sturdy and private – I’m 6’4 and fit comfortably. My suite mates were so fun and we enjoyed the rooftop sunsets and activities offered. It really made my stay that much better. Thank you YS!
The hostel was great, and very welcoming with a great social atmosphere to meet other travelers and have a great view of the Parthenon and breakfast selection. The rooms had a curtain on the bed and a safe, so was a great welcoming place!
Overall, Yellowsquare is a good hostel. Clean, nice bathrooms, really good rooftops with view of Acropolis. There are some events happening on the rooftop, such as DJs playing and so forth – but as a solo traveller I lacked some more activities or attempts to bring people together. I ended up sitting much alone, would be great if the hostel organised a pub crawl or something similar.
I was upgraded from an 8-bedroom to a 4, the room was nice, with a little terrace, lockers and a private bathroom.
The rooftop was amazing, the view too, and the events were pretty cool.
Only negative thing is that they didn’t give me an blanket when I asked for it, even though my roomates had one. I was very cold and got sick because I only had a think sheet.
This was my first time in Athens, and I loved having YellowSquare as my base to explore the city. The hostel is located a short walk away from Monastiraki square and subway station, there are many bars and restaurants nearby, and all the main sights are within walking distance. The lobby and other common areas were clean, inviting and well designed. The rooftop is amazing, watching the sunset over Acropolis with a free welcome drink on the evening of my arrival was priceless. I stayed in a 4 bed mixed dorm, the room had a balcony which was a great bonus, the bed was comfy and private and the bathroom very clean. As a solo female I felt completly safe in the area around the hostel. Bonus tip: the famous Diporto taverna is located just around the corner from the hostel, make sure to check it out.
I originally booked 1 night and stayed for 2 more in the end. Great hostel, stunning roof top terrace, fantastic program in the evening and met lovely people from all over the world during my stay. Super social hostel. Would always return! <3
We had the best time. We had a private room. The room was clean the bed was comfy and the shower was great. The rooftop bar is just insanely good. The staff were brilliant. Fun, friendly and helpful. The coffee was also really good. The food. Felt safe in the area. Everything couldn’t recommend this place enough.
This place was PERFECT – I felt close to all the areas I wanted to visit, SAFE and cared for by the staff, and also had lots of opportunities for fun and meeting other hostel mates with all the events and shared spaces.
The property didn’t provide any comforters or blankets. I shivered the entire night while I was wrapped up in my paper thin sheet.
I asked the hostel staff for a blanket or comforter and they said they were all out.
We loved this hostel! The beds were clean and we received two beds in the same room as we requested. We also were able to go to the rooftop and watch the beautiful sunset. However the washroom always had water on the floor, puddling from a leak in a sink pipe. As well, the hand towels were not changed in 3 days.
I stayed at YellowSquare for 3 nights and I cannot fault it. The staff are lovely and are really approachable, the hostel is clean and feels safe and the rooftop bar is a great place to make friends. I would 100% stay here again!
I had an amazing time at the Yellowsquare. I spend most of my time at the rooftop bar, Great atmosphere and met some wonderful people which lead to a great time in Athens. The only thing I wish was they had an early check in option. I know they hold ur bags for you but check in early helps when you had a really long flight and time change. All in all this was an amazing hostel. I will return
Great hostel in the center of Athens, with a good breakfast, cozy beds, ensuite bathrooms, and balconies. The rooftop bar and the espresso coffee machine are above hostel standards. I will come back.
Super nice and helpful staff! Love the fact that theybhave a room to workout
Pros:
– the beds were well-thought out, loved the extra vertical railing to climb into the bunk
– appreciated so many different common spaces and a full-size kitchen to not only make the food but hang out and eat it too!
– the bar was awesome, everything seemed reasonably priced, great portions, I had the Debola pizza and it was great!
– staff were all really nice and friendly, helpful, chill, yet still authoritative and laid down the ground rules! Nice to have respectable people setting a standard for the hostel! Felt more secure and legitimate that way
– loved having a common bathroom in addition to the bathroom within the dorm in case the dorm’s bathroom was occupied!
– I don’t know if all the rooms have a balcony, but that was such a surprise and a nice touch! Really elevated the stay and made me feel like I was in an accommodation closer to that of a hotel than a hostel!
…
Cons:
– There were so many touches that seemed created from the experience of having backpacked and travelled to different hostels, so it was a surprise that, with all the good things, the dorm lockers were vertical and quite small. I know some hostels have upright lockers as opposed to drawers under the beds, but, at least in my room, there was not much floor space in order to easily access my bag and dig out its contents once I’d gotten the bag out of the locker. So to have the vertical locker, in which I couldn’t really access my bag while it was >within< the locker, it would have been nice to have more floor space to go through my bag and get out what I needed, or to have a larger locker/drawer in the first place so that I could've accessed something in my bag without having to entirely re-pack every time just to fit my bag back in the locker.
The bags of other people in my shared dorm were too big to fit in the lockers, so there was already limited floor space between the bags laying out and the room having a weird shape besides. If I'd had a longer stay, I could see getting sick of taking my bag out of the locker, unpacking just to retrieve one thing, and then having to re-pack it all just so my bag could fit back in the locker. That could be really tedious. –I did like the extra shelf and hooks within the locker though! That was a nice way to offer some compartmentalization. 🙂
– oh, also, I don't know if there is air conditioning specifically in the dorms, but the room got very hot at night. Could have been due to the balcony door being open though. It was hard to tell if AC was running or not, so hard to tell if the balcony door should be closed at night. If I'd had a longer stay, I probably would have asked to clarify in order to know what was best! 🙂
I had a fantastic stay at the yellow square. I was only in Athens for the few days but they made it all better. The staff where lovely, the rooms where clean and the bed is incredibly comfortable! The roof top bar has the a incredible view of the Acropolis and across Athens as well! I can’t recommend then highly enough; I will be coming to stay again!
I had a really great stay at YellowSquare Athens. The hostel was comfortable, clean, and conveniently located, making it easy to explore the city. The breakfast was delicious, generous, and a great way to start the day, and the rooftop patio was such a nice added bonus.
What really stood out to me, though, was the kindness of one of the staff members. I had pre-paid for breakfast, but my flight was changed to an earlier time, meaning I had to leave before breakfast service began. One of the staff members actually put croissants in the oven early so I wouldn’t have to leave hungry before my flight. Such a thoughtful gesture, and very much appreciated.
The only downside was that the room got quite hot, so we had to leave the balcony door open, which meant there was quite a bit of street noise at night. Other than that, my stay was terrific and I would happily recommend it to others visiting Athens.
The view from the rooftop bar was breathtaking. Very clean rooms and helpful staff
Only problem is location of the hostel, construction noise and not very safe area
The staff was welcoming, there are social activities and the place feels safe
Yes it’s a bit expensive, but there is nothing I would change about this hostel. It has all the facilities, it’s clean. The beds are quiet and comfortable. Everything works. Great breakfast. Lively bar & fun activities. Perfect location.
Best hostel experience I had! Everything is super clean, the beds are comfy, the common kitchen is spacious, and the rooftop bar is everything you need in the evenings!
