YellowSquare Reviews: Florence
YellowSquare Florence provides female-only dorms, shared dorms, and private ensuite rooms. We have an easy working space in the shared areas where you can grab a coffee and work at the tables before or after check-in. For daily activities and food, Barmezzo has a restaurant and events every day like karaoke, quizzes, and beerpong. Bargiu is where the cool events happen featuring live music, dj sets and stand-up comedy that brings together locals and travelers. During the summer, you can head up to Barsu, our rooftop pool bar where social parties take place with a view.
All staff members were genuinely eager to help.
Dear YellowSquare Florence Team,
I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding my check-in experience at your hostel on August 2, 2025.
I arrived at the hostel at approximately 4:00 PM, which is slightly after the official check-in time of 3:00 PM. I was one of the earlier arrivals that afternoon. During check-in, I politely asked the receptionist(Denise Deputy) if it was possible to be assigned a lower bunk bed and preferably on a higher floor. She responded that typically such preferences need to be noted at the time of booking, and that lower bunks were likely already reserved. Nonetheless, she offered to check the availability. After a short pause, she told me there were none available. A few seconds later, she checked again and repeated that no lower bunks or higher-floor beds were available.
However, that evening I discovered that in Room 103, where I was assigned, there were only three guests in total, and at least two lower bunks were unoccupied. I took a photo at 12:52 AM, clearly showing the vacant lower bunks and by the next morning, the same bunks were still unused. Moreover, I checked the Booking.com app , and the room type I booked still showed five rooms (or beds) available for that day. I also spoke with other guests and staff, who confirmed that the current occupancy rate is around 50%, suggesting there were many vacant beds, including lower bunks and higher floors’.
Therefore, the receptionist’s statement that no lower bunks were available appears to be unreasonable and inaccurate. As a solo female traveler from China, this experience made me question the professionalism of the front desk staff and led to discomfort and unease, especially since my request was reasonable and made politely.
Furthermore, on the morning of August 3, I approached the same receptionist(Denise deputy)again and politely asked if I could move to a lower bunk. I also mentioned that the night before, two lower bunks in my room had clearly not been occupied, despite her telling me they were unavailable.
She did not directly respond to the contradiction I pointed out, but simply said, “I have to check, I have to check.” After checking, she confirmed that a lower bunk was now available. However, she then told me that I needed to clean the bed myself before moving. I was honestly surprised and thought I might have misunderstood, since cleaning beds is normally the responsibility of housekeeping staff, not guests but she still said that I needed to clean the beds bed myself.
I repeated to her that the lower bunk had never been used, and was clearly unoccupied the entire time. Therefore, no cleaning was necessary. Still, I felt her response and handling of the situation were inappropriate and unprofessional, especially for a hospitality setting.
I would sincerely appreciate an explanation of the following:
Why was I told that no lower bunks were available when they clearly were?
Was this a miscommunication, a mistake, or some other internal policy not communicated to guests?

Booking Number: 10…
If necessary, I am also able to provide more evidence of this case.
I want to express that I do enjoy the environment at YellowSquare Hostel and find most of your staff very friendly and helpful. However, I do hope this issue can be taken seriously and addressed appropriately.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
F. M.
Auch an Amazing Hostel! Very clean, the Food an ambiance is great. Loved the pool and all the activities!
I had a great time. The pool is a great place to meet people and the pasta is very convenient.
The rooms were clean, comfortable, and nicely furnished.
Got a room on ground floor
All the noise kept coming in rooms until 2 am
The AC on whole ground floor was down and the reception did not let me know when i checked in. Spent a night in a hot room and got no concession for it.
Next day i had to pack everything check out at 10 and check back in for a room on 3rd floor instead.
The first room i had, bidet was broken and rooms are also a bit small.
The rooms got cleaned daily, my room got a own bathroom with shower, shampoo, toilet, storage for toothbrush etc.. Really social hostel and every day a cool activity. And free pasta from 8-9pm!
Since my first visit in May of 2024 I’ve come back here many times. The friendly atmosphere, three bars and rooftop pool make it such a fun stay. The location is perfect and I really appreciate the planned activities.
The actual hostel was great, the beds were comfortable me and ample locker space. The free dinner was also a nice bonus. However, the pool was closed for a whole day ‘for maintenance’ while I was there which was annoying, because I had only booked this hostel for it. There seemed to be no maintenance happening. There is also space for a curtain to be put on – it would make the rooms that bit better!
The hostel was very social, everyone was very friendly and I quickly made friends as a solo traveler which was great! The rooftop pool and bar were lovely and the room was nice, amazing vibes. Only thing I’d say is it’s a bit far from the city, but there were regular buses.
I stayed for five days in Florence, and this was a great hostel: the staff’s members are doing their job perfectly and there is nothing to say about the provided services. That’s perfect for me !
If one improvement could be done, it would be concerning the washing of the dishes in the kitchen. Nothing really concerning, but I never found any towel to dry my personal dishes during my stay.
That’s the only thing I could think about : I spent good nights and ate good food in this good hostel, that I absolutely recommend.
Facilities, amazing. Staff, amazing. BUT the people I met who stayed at the hostel, wonderful, stunning, beautiful souls. Keep up the atmosphere that you create. It allows us to connect with one another from all walks of life, and that is the most important thing you could do whilst travelling.
I had a wonderful stay!! Only thing I would wish for would be courtains on the beds for more privacy. Loved my stay!!
The place was great
YellowSquare was a great base during the July heat, with cool rooms and a social roof terrace. Staff was helpful and everything was clean and well organised. Perfect hostel, not in a busy area but easily accessible.
One of the best travelling experiences I’ve had ever, met lovely people everywhere, pool was a nice touch and the free pasta was wonderful
Amazing place to stay and meet people. Rooms were clean, spacious and had good air conditioning. Vibes were high and easy to meet people with friendly staff and many activities to join
It was very clean and there were a lot of free activities you were able to participate in. Also loved how easy it made it to connect with people!
We changed our booking to yellow square last minute purely because it had a pool and kitchen as I other one didn’t but once we got to the hostel we were blown away. Pool area is amazing and super social. Rooms are clean, big and have amazing AC. Bar has great food and drinks at a really reasonable price for Italy. We met some amazing people which could have been pure luck but the layout of the hostel you literally cannot not meet awesome people. The free pasta is good for backpacking as it fills your belly and then you can go into town and get something smaller. Also we loved that the bar put ice in our water bottles which we have never had at a hostel. The fact every person has a safe on their bunk is really cool. The hostel was so fun that we barely explored the city as the hostel was so cool which is bad but that’s how much we loved it. We loved yellow square so much that we stayed in the Rome one after Florence and were again blown away. The staff are also so friendly and fun. Genuinely the best hostel I have ever stayed at and will hopefully be back and recommend to anyone who is going to Florence.
Yellowsquare Florence had the right amount of socialising and amenities. The rooftop pool was perfect in the heat, everyone was friendly and chatty and the sleeping arrangements were comfortable. I wish I had stayed more than one night.
The room was well prepared, a own safe and a big locker (for my big bag) made it easy to arrive.
I liked the different Events to Connect each other. My only wish in this point: Be proactive, ask people, if they want to join.
Breakfast was great especially the fresh Barista coffee.
Amazing hostel with friendly people, great pool and amazing karaoke night! I loved it!
thanks for the nice stay, everything was perfect. I loved the architecture, the rooms (we had an own terrace), the roof top pool, really nice activities, lovely stuf,
Nice place, people are kind and accessible.
I stayed in a girls’ dormitory for 6 people. The room was big and good. The beds and lockers were also good. The bathroom was clean. The common areas in the hostel were great. The rooftop and the garden were really good and there were many activities.
YellowSquare was a great hostel. Has a solo women traveling, I felt so safe and it was very clean. The staff was very nice and fun. It’s a fun hostel with many activities and opportunities to make new friends and have a good time. Thank you to everyone there!
Had a great time in Florence because YellowSquare had everything I needed. Appreciated the standing lockers, free bodywash, and the regular cleaning. The events also seemed nice although I didn’t get time to attend. I was in a dorm with other solo travelers and we hung out together! Only small drawback is the location, we had to walk a bit to get to the city center. But it was clear before I booked.
Was an amazing hostel to stay in amenities were great and staff were super helpful
Zalig hostel, uniek met zen rooftop pool in hartje Firenze! Happy hour, free pasta,… All worth it !
Awesome conditions
Events
Nice staff and guests
Close to train station
I really liked my expérience at yellow square florence, the place made me feel like i was on vacation and it felt accessible to meet other young travelers and make friends, the food is great and the service too.
Clean, located right next to transportation for easy access to city. Lots of events each day for guests and very polite/helpful staff. Easily the best hostel I’ve been to with great price. The food and drinks were also good prices and the pool was clean and nice.
Was all perfect, lovely staff, nice games, good drinks. However, there should be some towels available at the pool and the privacy courtains could be advertised more proactively.
Such a fun and social hostel with a lot of activities and great common spaces!
Must stay for Florence
This place is great if you’re 18-24. As a 26-year-old I felt like everyone was younger than me – I didn’t feel out of place but I felt like everyone was around 21 and I wasn’t going to meet many people my age that I would really gel with. Other than that, it’s brilliant – clean, great facilities, lovely staff, rooftop pool is amazing. It’s nice that you get free pasta every night but the pasta is very basic.
Great vibes, friendly staff, nice food & drinks & last but not least lovely rooftop with pool!
I have stayed at Yellowsquare in Milan and Rome but I would say the Florence one was the best. It was clean and new like the one in Milan with the social vibes and amenities of the one in Rome. Location was pretty good, not far from a tram station that takes you directly into the centre. I thought the club would be a problem but you couldn’t hear anything from my 1st floor room. Free pasta is the best thing to happen to me .. helpful staff, good quiz night, easy laundry although a bit expensive. Only thing was the shower leaked everywhere but I guess there’s always got to be something going wrong in a hostel!
