Not Another Volunteer Program: YellowSquare’s Internship Experience
Not Another Volunteer Program: Why Our Internship Hits Different
So, you’re Googling volunteer programs in Italy hoping for something fun, real, and unforgettable—and voilà, you land here. But let’s get something straight right away: this is not another volunteer program.
At YellowSquare, we call it an internship, and for good reasons. Our program isn’t about “volunteering for a free bed.” It’s about bringing your energy, ideas, and personality into our spaces—and leaving with real experiences, real friends, and a deeper understanding of what hospitality means when it’s powered by community.
Whether you’re looking to intern in Florence, Milan, Rome, or soon Athens, you’re in for something wild (in the best way).
What You’ll Actually Do
Forget spreadsheets and boring coffee runs. Our internship is 50% connection, 50% chaos, and 100% unforgettable. Here’s what a typical week might look like:
- Co-hosting karaoke nights or themed dinners
- Helping run city tours and events
- Supporting guest check-ins or welcome briefings
- Collaborating with YellowSquare team members
- Bringing your own flair (yes, your salsa class idea is welcome)
Our interns aren’t just sidekicks—they’re a vital part of the vibe we build every day. And no, you don’t need to be a hospitality pro. You just need to be curious, friendly, and open to the YellowSquare madness.
Why We Call It an Internship (And Not a Volunteer Program)
We get it. The word “volunteer” brings clicks. But for us, that label just doesn’t fit.
While volunteering often means helping out in exchange for free lodging, our approach at Yellow is much more intentional. What we offer is a structured internship—a meaningful experience where you’re not just giving your time, but also gaining something valuable in return.
Yes, it’s a cultural exchange. But it’s also a unique opportunity to learn, grow, and immerse yourself in a new environment in a truly enriching way.
And guess what? Some of our amazing team members started out just like you—as interns! They were travelers with open minds and useful skills, ready to contribute to the Yellow world. And we noticed!
Take Kate, now our Square Experiencer in Rome, or Enrico, our Creative Deputy in Athens. They both began their journeys as interns.
That means:
- A clear schedule (so you can still explore the city and more)
- A welcome briefing and continuous mentoring
- An agreement signed with us before you start
- And yes, some pretty solid perks (see below)
The Perks
Let’s talk about the good stuff.
- Free accommodation in a shared intern dorm
- Two meals per day
- Free laundry, common kitchen and coworking access
- Priority spots on our internal events and trips
- A wild, inspiring, international team with strong community values
- A certificate of attendance at the end of your internship
And the best perk? You’ll be in the heart of one of the coolest cities in Europe, surrounded by people who know how to make every day count.
Who This Is For
Are you:
- A backpacker with a curiosity for behind-the-scenes hospitality?
- A student looking for a travel-based internship?
- A people-person who gets a kick out of shared dinners and themed nights?
- Someone who doesn’t mind a bit of mess, a lot of laughs, and a few late nights?
If you answered yes to at least two of those, you’re probably one of us.
Bonus points if you:
- Speak more than one language
- Have experience in art, events, music, food, or digital content
- Want to learn how hostels work from the inside-out
How to Apply
Our selection process is friendly, fast, and human.
- Fill out the application form.
- If your application stands out, you’ll be invited for a video chat.
- If you’re selected, we’ll guide you through the paperwork.
- Then you sign the agreement and get ready to join our team!
A Few Notes Before You Apply
- The internship is unpaid—but includes accommodation, food, and experiences.
- Minimum stay: 6 weeks.
- EU citizens: free to apply. Non-EU citizens: need a visa that allows interning/volunteering in Italy.
- You’ll need a Codice Fiscale (we help with that).
- You must be 18+, friendly, and able to live in a dorm setting.
A Real Slice of the YellowSquare Life
From rooftop sunsets in Florence to Milan’s wild events and Roman bar nights, YellowSquare is anything but static. Interns become part of that magic. You’ll meet digital nomads, solo travelers, artists, and locals—all while playing a part in something special.
So if you’re tired of scrolling through the same old volunteer in Italy listings, maybe it’s time to switch lanes and be part of our internship program.
That sounds good?
👉 Fill out this application and we’ll reply to you shortly.

The June tarot card is "THE JUSTICE"
Ah, Justice! What a word! The dictionaries call it a “virtue that consists in the will to recognize and respect the rights of others.” Noble, yes, but don’t picture blindfolded goddesses or lawyers from binge-worthy courtroom dramas.
Instead, close your eyes and imagine… a colourful basket. Yes, really. Those old-school woven ones. A single strand may be fragile, but when threads cross, one over, one under, they create something strong enough to carry weight, to last for decades… centuries!
Justice, to me, is just that: an intricate weave of mutual respect. Not overpowering, not judging. Just the art of holding each other up.
So this June, I see not just a basket, but a rainbow one. Colorful, strong, and made of many different threads. Happy Pride Month, dear souls. Free the World.
The Justice
In a world not so different from ours, someone took the first step toward creating peace. But in their efforts to promote harmony, they encountered opposing groups, each firmly clinging to its own interests. Watching the chaos, the person realized that selflessness was the key to bringing people together. They understood that everyone’s lives were interconnected, like an intricate web, and that by protecting others, they would protect their own peace as well. With determination, they began resolving misunderstandings and building bridges between the groups. Over time, this network of connections grew stronger, fostering protection and harmony for all.
Oracle’s Guidance
Our lives are all connected; protect others and become a peacemaker. This is your sign to clear up misunderstandings and foster peace in your relationships.
Value
Peace and interconnectedness.

The May tarot card: "THE INERTIA"
There are times when we wait… for a message, a call, a sign…or even just a smile that never quite shows up. Perhaps you weren’t exactly waiting for my message this month, but here I am, late as ever. Why? Because just like the card of May, I too was stuck.
Frozen in thought. “Should I write this… or that?” And so, my dear ones, I’m here to share a tiny revelation: Don’t be the hourglass, hanging still in time. Move. Act. Fail. But do something!
And this month, the invitation I send you is not to a party, a talk, or an aperitivo. It’s to a sacred space called the polling station.
Yes—go vote. Express your thoughts. Show up.
Because even small actions are stronger than long silences.
The Inertia
There was once an hourglass that decided to lie on its side, refusing to let its sands flow. Stagnant, it lay there, making time itself stand still. Days did not come, nor did nights; summer never turned into winter. One day, a gentle breeze whispered to the hourglass, urging it to tilt. It promised that whether days were bright or dark, the hourglass would find joy in the changes it could bring. Inspired, the hourglass turned, and time began to move once more.
Oracle’s Guidance
If you want things to change, you must take action. Be the change you wish to see in your world. Do not fear the turning of time; embrace it.
Value
Embrace change for the better.

Evite feriados e o pico do verão europeu.

The April tarot card: "THE FOOL"
Ah, April! The winds of change blow, and from my crystal ball I see… The Fool! Not an insult—The Fool is the genius (and a little bit the madman) who dares to step into the unknown without a map or a clue.
And you, dear traveler, know this well. Living far from home, exploring new places, saying yes to the unfamiliar—it’s all a bit crazy, and yet it makes you more flexible, creative, and wise. Science says so!
So pat yourself on the back and embrace your inner Fool—even if sometimes it nags you with doubts, frustrations, or leads you into awkward situations. That Foolish side is part of you too, and it’s exactly what makes you different, bold, and ready to discover what others never dare to see.
Trust the Fool. The journey has only just begun.
The Fool
Once upon a time, there was a person who lived by a strict routine. Day in and day out, they followed the same path, performed the same tasks, and never deviated from their predictable life. People around them thought this was normal, even admirable, because it was safe. But one day, something inexplicable happened. Without planning, without forethought, this person packed a small bag and set off on a journey to places unknown. They left behind their home, their routines, and everything familiar. People called them “The Fool,” because they thought this decision was reckless, even mad. But The Fool knew something they didn’t: to experience true magic, one must embrace a bit of madness. They had a feeling deep inside that by stepping out into the world, by letting go of all that they once thought was possible, they would discover not only new lands and people but also a new version of themselves.
Oracle’s Guidance
Magic happens when you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone, when you open your mind and heart to the world and the unexpected. Have the courage to discover and accept what is different from you. Let go of your fears and take that leap; follow your heart and instincts. You will find a new world and a new you.
Value
Open-mindedness, embracing the new and different.

The March tarot card: "THE STRENGTH"
The Strength
There was a person who believed that only through aggression and brute strength could they achieve anything. They often found themselves in trouble, more isolated and vulnerable each time. They had been taught that this was the way to get what they wanted. But one day, during a journey through a dense forest, they hid behind a bush and witnessed a delicate figure speaking gently to a lion. The lion, fierce and powerful, listened and responded calmly. It was then they understood: strength was not about force but about communication and understanding.
Oracle’s Guidance
You may think that you need to use force to get what you want. Instead, take the longer, more difficult path of courage and compassion. It’s more rewarding and beautiful.
Value
Non-violence and empathy.

The February tarot card: "THE LOVERS"
Valore
Accettazione dell’amore in tutte le sue forme.
Come trovare le carte?
Ti troveranno!
Pronti a iniziare?

Top 5 Lugares para Comer Vegan em Roma
Olá a tod*s!

Top 4 – Romeow Cat Bistro

P.S. Você também encontra Flower Burger em Florença e Milão!
Top 2 – Gelasio, Oltre il Gelato

Average Price: 10/15€️
Vote: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ out of 5
Top 1 – Nativa
https://www.instagram.com/nativaristorante/
Average Price: 20/30€️
Vote: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ out of 5
