With the Duomo rising above terracotta rooftops, the Ponte Vecchio glittering with gold shops, and masterpieces tucked in every corner, Florence is home to some of the greatest art and architecture in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text-heading-mini\"><span class=\"text-subheading\"><strong>Arriving in Florence<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I landed at <strong>Amerigo Vespucci Airport<\/strong> late in the evening and hopped on the T2 Tram outside the terminal.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Quick Tip<\/strong>: Ride to Redi- 20 minutes, \u20ac1.70<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Walking to <strong>YellowSquare Florence<\/strong>, I was drawn by the warm night air and buzz of travellers, making me want to dive straight into the rooftop pool. I dropped my bags, changed quickly, and went for an evening swim- overlooking the skyline. I made some new friends, and cooked dinner before joining them for an evening drink.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text-heading-mini\"><span class=\"text-subheading\"><strong>The Uffizi Gallery<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The next morning, we walked 35 minutes into the city, passing the River Arno and the iconic Ponte Vecchio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text-subtitle-mini\"><b>Uffizi Gallery<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Entry: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u20ac40 (5-day combined ticket: Uffizi + Palazzo Pitti + Boboli Gardens)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Highlights: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Botticelli\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Primavera<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Birth of Venus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Caravaggio\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Medusa<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Da Vinci\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Annunciation<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-36096 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/yellowsquare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"800\" height=\"629\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Standing in front of these masterpieces &#8211; works I had only ever seen in books &#8211; felt surreal. The corridors pulse with artistic energy, each room unfolding centuries of history and imagination. I could have stayed there all day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Stepping outside, we entered <\/span><b>Piazza della Signoria<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Florence\u2019s open-air museum. With <\/span><b>Palazzo Vecchio<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><b>Loggia dei Lanzi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and sculptures like <\/span><b>Cellini\u2019s <\/b><b><i>Perseus<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><\/i><b>Giambologna\u2019s <\/b><b><i>Abduction of a Sabine Woman<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and the <\/span><b>Fountain of Neptune<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, it is a world-class art experience- and completely free. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-36101\" src=\"https:\/\/yellowsquare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/3.jpg\" alt=\"3\" width=\"800\" height=\"929\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text-heading-mini\"><strong>The Duomo &amp; The Ponte Vecchio<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We queued 30 minutes at <\/span><b><i>I\u2019 Girone De\u2019 Ghotti<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for a traditional <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Schiacciate <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sandwich.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>My pick:<\/b> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Hypocritical- roast ham, tomatoes, olive paste, salad<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (\u20ac6).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Quite possibly the best sandwich I have ever had!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-36106\" src=\"https:\/\/yellowsquare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/4.jpg\" alt=\"4\" width=\"800\" height=\"897\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We ate in front of the <\/span><b>Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore (the Duomo)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, its pink, green, and white marble glistening in the sun.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text-subtitle-mini\"><b>The Duomo<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Entry: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Free<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Famous for: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brunelleschi\u2019s dome &#8211; the largest masonry dome in the world\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Inside: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vasari &amp; Zuccari\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Last Judgement <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fresco<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-36111\" src=\"https:\/\/yellowsquare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/5.jpg\" alt=\"5\" width=\"800\" height=\"888\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We cross the <\/span><b>Ponte Vecchio<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, rebuilt in 1345 and lined with jewellery and art shops. The climb is steep, but the panoramic view of Florence glowing gold is worth every step. After dinner at <\/span><b>Vini e Vecchi Sapori<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (I ordered <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cacio e pepe<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tiramisu), <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">we ended the night dancing and singing karaoke back at the hostel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text-heading-mini\"><b>Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On my last morning, I visited <\/span><b>Santa Maria Novella<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the oldest pharmacy in the world (founded in 1221).
